Frequently asked questions on RescuePRO™ for MAC:

I have a compact flash card that came up with an error message at the end of vacation. I tried your demo. It came up with 26 pictures but only showed thumbnails of 3 pictures not the pictures that I could see on the camera. Is this normal or should I see a thumbnail of each picture?

Upon running the demo of the RescuePRO™ software, the thumbnails of the images we can recover will show in the window. If no thumbnails show up, then the images may be unrecoverable. Please check in the Help file in the software under Troubleshooting to see if there are other options to try.

When I download the demo, I get a file with the extension .BIN - what is this?

You need to install an unzip program. The most common is StuffIt Expander. It is available at www.stuffit.com and the instructions for installing it are on their site.

I’ve the following issue with RescuePRO™ full version. During the scan it finds 20 jpegs and then the following error occurs:- A fatal error happened, and the application quit.. Any ideas?
The card may have a corrupted place in the file system structure that is tripping us. Save the images that come off the card in a normal scan, and then go to the Disk Utility in the system - please note that it is very very important that you choose the correct format to avoid losing data on the card. You need to choose your media in the Disk Utility Window, and then select the MS-DOS format for your media and click Erase. This will not erase the pictures on your card, but it will put a DOS format heading on the card so that we may be able to scan past the error and recover more images. Then close the Disk Utiltiy Window, and rescan with RescuePRO™. This should be able to scan past that error then.

My camera does not have a digital media card, it has internal memory. Can RescuePRO™ bring back the images I deleted?

We cannot recover from the internal memory on the cameras, only removable digital media.

I have a Sony FD Mavica. It stores images on floppy disks. Can you recover the deleted pictures from the floppy?

Yes. If the floppy is not damaged, we should be able to recover your images.

I have a Sony CD Mavica. It stores images on a mini-CD. Can you recover the deleted pictures from the CD?

Yes, we can recover from the CD as long as it is not damaged physically, and the disk session has been finalized in the camera.

I ran the scan, and there are images that show only half of a picture, is there a way to recover the other half of the picture?

Those images are broken on the card, and not recoverable with RescuePRO™. It is possible that the images may be manually recovered. Please contact support@lc-tech.com for details.

When I put my card in a reader on my computer, it does not "see" the card as a drive (as it does when I put a non-damaged SmartMedia card in the reader). Since the computer doesn't "see" the card in the reader, RescuePRO™ doesn't list the drive (which usually appears as an hard drive) and I can't run recovery on it.

If the card shows as /dev/disk1 or something similar, choose that device and complete the scan normally. If it does not show as that device name, the card may need to be formatted. Go to the Disk Utility in the system - please note that it is very very important that you choose the correct format to avoid losing data on the card. You need to choose your media in the Disk Utility Window, and then select the MS-DOS format for your media and click Erase. This will not erase the pictures on your card, but it will put a DOS format heading on the card so that we may be able to scan past the error and recover more images. Then close the Disk Utility Window, and rescan with RescuePRO™. This should be able to scan past that error then.

Do you have a free utility that will tell me whether I have photos able to be recovered (but not actually recover them)?

Yes, the demo of RescuePRO™ will show you the thumbnails of the images we can recover.

I would like to know if the program can recover my pictures from my hard drive. I deleted my pics to the trash can, and I then emptied it. Now, I want to recover them. Is it possible ?

RescuePRO™ was not designed to recover data from the hard drive. Please contact support@lc-tech.com for further assistance.

I need to restore damaged image files off of a CD-ROM. Can RescuePRO™ do this?

Yes, scan the CD just like you would scan a digital card. If the CD is not damaged, and the session has been closed, we should be able to recover images from it.

I am using a floppy disk adapter with my SmartMedia card, and RescuePRO™ will not show my card, or shows it Not Ready - what is wrong?

Floppy disk adapters for digital media do not allow the proper access to the card, and will not show all of the files in a recovery. You will need to use a card reader on a USB or FireWire port.
